Casey Anthony video diary surfaces

NBC News says they have confirmed a video diary by Casey Anthony was recently posted to YouTube.

"It's just a little surreal how much things have changed since July, and how many things haven't changed," Anthony says in the video.

Anthony says she's excited to have a computer and a camera that she can use and also said she has adopted a dog.

"It's been a long time since I've been able to call something mine," she said in the video, which was reportedly recorded in October.

Anthony does not mention her daughter, Caylee, or any other family members in the video.

A jury found Anthony not guilty of killing her daughter in July.

Anthony is currently serving one year of probation in an undisclosed location over in a check fraud case.

In the video, Anthony claims she will remain in that location until February or March.

As most of you know each year the ContraVest FAMILY, Friends, Vendors, Residents, and Contractors all come together to adopt Bernadette Hanlon our BEAUTIFUL FRIEND and CO-WORKER to give her 6 daughters a Christmas they will never forget!

For those of you who have not heard of Bernadette’s story, she is a single mom with 3 girls of her own and a less than 5 years ago her oldest daughter had a regular babysitting job to watch 3 little girls. Her daughter had an unexpected school event on the same night she had committed to babysitting. The girl’s mother’s name was Amy, that night Bernie offered to cover for her daughter by watching Amy’s girls in her home. Amy’s oldest daughter 13 at the time decided to stay home alone while the other girls stayed with Bernie. That night a turn of events drastically changed all of their lives forever. Amy’s ex-husband broke into Amy’s home tied up her daughter and waited with a knife for Amy to return. When Amy walked into their home she was brutally attacked and murdered in front of her 13 year old daughter. Luckily Amy’s boyfriend who was parking the car walked in just in time to save Amy’s daughter, he too was stabbed in the struggle and fortunately survived. Amy’s daughter’s had only one living relative a grandmother who was elderly and unable to care for the girls… Bernie took these distraught little girls into her home because they had no one. Their father was arrested and charged with their mother’s murder. Fast forward nearly 5 years, Bernie has spent countless hours fighting the system to protect these children. She spent numerous hours at trial to see that their father paid for his crime and numerous hours at doctor’s appointments for child counseling, she is proud to tell everyone that she was able to officially ADOPT the girls!

As you can imagine it’s a difficult job being a single mother of 6 girls! Bernie’s 3 girls have sacrificed so much by welcoming their new sister’s into their very small home. Amy’s daughters have suffered an unforgettable loss in the murder of their mom. No matter how difficult things have been Bernie has been the one constant in their life! Bernie is an “ANGEL” in every since of the word!

It is our honor each year to give this beautiful and certainly deserving family a wonderful Christmas one that they will remember and cherish for years to come!

Santa's Christmas Tree Forest opens for the season on the Friday after Thanksgiving, and is open Tuesday through Sunday from10:00 a.m. until 6:30 p.m., It is closed on Mondays. Typically, weekends earlier in the season are our busiest days, and weekday mornings are popular for school field trips. Weekday afternoons and evenings are ideal for avoiding large crowds. We close for the season at noon on December 23rd.

Integra Landings is proud to announce that we are now a pick up for "Toys for Tots"

MISSION:

The mission of the U. S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program is to collect new, unwrapped toys during October, November and December each year, and distribute those toys as Christmas gifts to needy children in the community in which the campaign is conducted.

GOAL:

The primary goal of Toys for Tots is to deliver, through a new toy at Christmas, a message of hope to less fortunate youngsters that will assist them in becoming responsible, productive, patriotic citizens.

OBJECTIVES:

The objectives of Toys for Tots are to help less fortunate children throughout the United States experience the joy of Christmas; to play an active role in the development of one of our nation’s most valuable resources – our children; to unite all members of local communities in a common cause for three months each year during the annual toy collection and distribution campaign; and to contribute to better communities in the future.

ACTIVITIES:

The principal Toys for Tots activity which takes place each year is the collection and distribution of toys in the communities in which a Marine Corps Reserve Unit is located. In communities without a Reserve Unit, the campaign can be conducted by a Marine Corps League Detachment or group of men and women, generally veteran Marines, authorized by Marine Toys for Tots Foundation to conduct a local Toys for Tots campaign. Local Toys for Tots Campaign Coordinators conduct an array of activities throughout the year, which include golf tournaments, foot races, bicycle races and other voluntary events designed to increase interest in Toys for Tots, and concurrently generate toys and monetary donations.

Spiderweb Dip with Bat Tortilla Chips Recipe

20 chipotle chili and pepper tortillas or flour tortillas (8 inches)

Cooking spray

3/4 teaspoon garlic salt

3/4 teaspoon ground coriander

3/4 teaspoon paprika

3/8 teaspoon pepper

DIP:

1 package (8 ounces) cream cheese, softened

3/4 cup salsa

1/2 cup prepared guacamole

1 to 2 tablespoons sour cream

Directions

Cut tortillas into bat shapes with a 3-3/4-in. cookie cutter. Place tortillas on baking sheets coated with cooking spray. Spritz tortillas with cooking spray. Combine the garlic salt, coriander, paprika and pepper; sprinkle over tortillas. Bake at 350° for 5-8 minutes or until edges just begin to brown.

In a small bowl, combine cream cheese and salsa. Spread into a 9-in. pie plate. Carefully spread guacamole to within 1 in. of edges.

Place sour cream in a small resealable plastic bag; cut a small hole in a corner of bag. Pipe thin concentric circles an inch apart over guacamole. Beginning with the center circle, gently pull a knife through circles toward center edge. Wipe knife clean. Repeat to complete spiderweb pattern. Serve with tortilla bats. Yield: about 1-1/2 cups dip and about 7 dozen chips.

*Nutrition Facts: 1 serving (2 tablespoons) equals 338 calories, 14 g fat (5 g saturated fat), 22 mg cholesterol, 704 mg sodium, 44 g carbohydrate, 1 g fiber, 9 g protein.

Marshmallows, with their cylindrical shape and flat tops, make perfect Frankensteins. To display these at your Halloween party, prop the pops in a shallow bucket filled with bolts.

Supplies

Marshmallows

Lollipop sticks

Green candy melts

Cocoa candy melts or chocolate chips

Vegetable shortening

Microwave-safe bowls

Styrofoam block

Chocolate jimmies

Candy eyes

Toothpick

Black edible marker
Helpful Hint: Find lollipop sticks, candy melts, Styrofoam, jimmies, and candy eyes at the craft store. You will also find edible writers at the craft store.
Directions
Skewer marshmallows with the lollipop sticks and set aside.
Melt green candy melts in the microwave. If necessary, add a teaspoon or more of vegetable shortening and stir well to thin the melts to an ideal dipping consistency.
Hold a skewered marshmallow by the lollipop stick and quickly submerge the marshmallow. Remove from the candy melts, and gently tap the stick against the side of the bowl to remove excess.
Prop the marshmallow in the Styrofoam block and let dry, about 20 to 30 minutes. Reserve the remaining melted candy melts.

Melt cocoa candy melts following the same instructions as above.
Work with one marshmallow at a time, and dip just the top of a green marshmallow in the candy melts, then immediately hold the marshmallow over a bowl or plate and shake chocolate jimmies over the melted cocoa candy melts.
Prop the marshmallow back in the Styrofoam block and let dry completely.
Decorate your Frankenstein by using a toothpick to dab a bit of melted candy melts on the back of candy eyes and adhere to the marshmallow.
Use the edible marker to draw details.
Helpful Hint: Edible markers may have an adverse affect with the fats in candy melts, so make sure your Frankensteins have dried well before adding detail, and try using the tips of the markers for best results.

Health Insurance Costs To Rise Again Next Year

Employee health care benefit costs are expected to increase 5.4% next year, according to an annual survey released by Mercer.
While the projected health insurance increase would be the smallest recorded in 15 years, it still remains well above the general rate of inflation, which stands at 3.9%, and salary growth.

Employers surveyed by Mercer say they have been trying to contain health care costs by raising deductibles, increasing paycheck contributions, and moving employees to lower-cost health plans.
"While 2012's slower cost growth is welcome news, it's still higher than the [consumer price index] -- which means employers won't be letting up their efforts to control costs anytime soon," said Susan Connolly, a partner in Mercer's Boston office.
If they were to make no changes to their plans, employers reported that their benefit costs would increase by 7.1%. While that would still be down from annual increases of about 9% in the past couple of years, most employers say it's still too much for them to absorb.
As a result of all of these cost-cutting measures, employees are picking up more of the tab. Over the past five years, employers have increasingly shifted costs to employees through higher deductible plans and Mercer expects they will continue to do so. About one-third of survey respondents said they plan to raise deductibles or co-payments next year, Mercer said.
The median in-network PPO deductible for an individual is now $1,000 among small employers and $500 for large employers, according to Mercer.
Employers have also been pushing consumer-directed health plans, or CDHP, which are high-deductible plans with a tax-advantaged spending account like a health saving account attached to it. They are also a lot less expensive than other plans. According to Mercer, a CDHP costs about 15% less than an average HMO or PPO plan.

"Employers see them as a way to provide more value to employees while at the same time managing cost," said Beth Umland, Mercer's director of health and benefits research in a press release.
As a result, Mercer expects to see a surge in the number of these plans being offered in the workplace next year. Currently, about 51% of the companies with 20,000 or more employees that Mercer surveyed offered a CDHP plan. And 58% of the employers Mercer surveyed said they plan to offer one next year.
One interesting but dangerous trend found in the survey is that employees are going to the doctor less. This "slowing utilization" could be a result of the tough economy -- people have less disposable income and therefore are seeking less non-urgent treatment. But it could also be a sign that employers' health management programs are starting to work, said Connolly.
"Earlier risk identification and health education, along with improvements in drug therapies and medical technology, are keeping people with health risks and chronic conditions away from the emergency room," she said.
Mercer's early survey results are based on interviews with about 1,600 employers. The firm expects to release final survey results that include responses from 2,800 employers, by the end of the year.

Hurricane Irene's center has moved north of Florida, and its outer bands have finally begun backing off the Central Florida coastline.

Winds are starting to back down, but should remain in the 15 to 25 mph range, with stronger gusts throughout the day Friday.

Things You'll Need

Measuring tape
Styrofoam sheets
Serrated knife
Candle
Floral picks
White glue
Straight pins
Medium-weight batting
Fabric
Scissors
Velcro tape

Instructions

1) Measure the width of the window and add 4 inches for window clearance, using a measuring tape. The height should be between 8 and 18 inches.

2) Measure out from the wall to clear any window coverings for the side pieces. Add an additional 2 inches to allow for adequate clearance. The height will be the height of the front piece. The top piece, or dust board, for your cornice box will be the length of the front board and the depth of the side pieces.

3) Lay the Styrofoam on a flat, protected surface. Cut through a candle with a serrated knife. Cut the Styrofoam into pieces according to your dimensions with the knife. You will have a front piece, two side pieces and a top, or dust board. Use an extra piece of Styrofoam to sand rough edges of your pieces.

4) Assemble the cornice box, using floral picks with the wires removed. Apply white glue to one end of the floral picks and insert them halfway into an edge of a side piece. Apply glue to the other end of the floral picks. Align the edge of the front section with the side piece. Press the pieces together, inserting the picks into the foam. Apply a pick every 2 inches for the best stability. Continue with the other side piece and the dust board. Allow the glue to dry completely before wrapping the box.

5) Wrap medium-weight batting around the top of the box, securing with straight pins. Include the side pieces when wrapping with batting.

6) Measure the width of the finished box, including the side pieces, and add 4 inches. Measure the height of the box, including the dust board and add 4 inches. This is the size of fabric you will need to cover the cornice box.

7) Begin at the bottom of the box. Pin the fabric on the back of the box with straight pins. Wrap the fabric over the top of the box. Secure under the top edge of the dust board.

8) Wrap around the sides of the box by mitering the corners as if wrapping a present. Secure the fabric with pins.

9) Hang the cornice above the window, using heavy-duty Velcro tape. Attach the tape on each side of the window and at several points above the window. Attach the opposite side of the tape to the Styrofoam edges of the cornice. Press the cornice box securely to the wall.

Lightning is a major cause of storm related deaths in the U.S.. A lightning strike can result in a cardiac arrest (heart stopping) at the time of the injury, although some victims may appear to have a delayed death a few days later if they are resuscitated but have suffered irreversible brain damage.

According to the NWS Storm Data, over the last 30 years (1981-2010) the U.S. has averaged 55 reported lightning fatalities per year. Only about 10% of people who are struck by lightning are killed, leaving 90% with various degrees of disability.

Margarita Grilled Shrimp

Ingredients

1 pound shrimp, peeled and deveined
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 tablespoons fresh lime juice
3 tablespoons olive oil
2 teaspoons tequila
3 tablespoons fresh chopped cilantro
1/4 teaspoon ground red pepper
1/4 teaspoon salt
4 bamboo skewers, soaked in water for 20 minutes

Directions:

Combine the shrimp, garlic, lime juice, olive oil, tequila, cilantro, red pepper, and salt in a bowl; toss to combine; refrigerate 30 minutes.
Preheat an outdoor grill for high heat and lightly oil grate. Drain the marinade from the shrimp and discard; thread the shrimp on the skewers.
Cook on preheated grill until the shrimp turn pink, 2 to 3 minutes per side.

TOLLS ON I-4! But no traffic...?

Tolls could be coming to Interstate 4, at least for any lanes that might be added to the oft-congested spine of Central Florida's road network.

U.S. Rep. John Mica, R-Winter Park, has dropped his longstanding opposition to so-called Lexus Lanes not only on I-4 but on interstates nationally. And, as chairman of the House Transportation Committee, Mica is writing that new position into a road-funding bill in Congress.

Tolls, he maintains, should be allowed on new lanes but not on existing ones. Previously, he was so against tolls that he specifically ruled out — in writing — any fees for riding on I-4 in the last federal transportation bill, which took effect in 2005.

But Mica now has changed his mind, in part because gas taxes are falling far short of what is needed to widen, improve and maintain roads in Florida and across the country.

Mica's new transportation bill says that, while "existing lanes on the interestate highway system remain toll-free, … states will have the ability to toll new capacity on the interstate system. States will also have greater flexibility to toll non-interstate highways."

He downplays the new policy, saying he simply is getting the federal government out of the way and giving more power to the states.

"What you do with the rest of the right of way is up to the states," Mica said.

The new bill, which would cover six years and be worth $210 billion, is moving slowly because deficit discussions have taken precedence on Capitol Hill. It is unclear when the bill might come up for a vote.

Florida Department of Transportation officials are excited by Mica's new stand because they think toll lanes could speed up a planned $2.3 billion overhaul of I-4 through downtownOrlando. Right now, there is no money for the 21-mile project.

"By allowing states to toll new capacity on interstate highways, FDOT will be able to reduce congestion on our highways, which will improve the quality of life of our citizens and visitors," FDOT Secretary Ananth Prasad said.

Noranne Downs, who runs FDOT in Central Florida, said her office is studying whether tolls could be used to jumpstart the I-4 work. Possibilities include borrowing money off the future revenue to start construction or joining forces with a private company that would be repaid with the fees.

"We're working on all the details of all that right now," Downs said. "We're trying to do all the what ifs."

Roger Neiswender, who wasOrlando's top transportation planner and now consults with the city, said that, without tolls or private financing, the work on I-4 could be two decades away because the state typically starts projects only when it has the money set aside.

Tolls, he said, would benefit even motorists who decide to stay in the free lanes, because drivers who pay will be leaving room for others.

"That is a huge difference to every single person in Central Florida," Neiswender said.

FDOT has experience with the fee concept because it installed a toll lane in December 2009 on a section of Interstate 95 in South Florida. That lane draws thousands of motorists daily, with a poll indicating that 71 percent of the highway's users are satisfied with the system. More than half said they use the pay lanes at least three times a week.

Studies also indicate that average speeds in the free lanes increased because cars were switching to the Lexus Lanes.

I-4, particularly through downtown Orlando, often bogs down as it carries as many as 210,000 vehicles a day. But there's little room left for widening the road next to outer lanes, which is often where expansions occur.

FDOT already has a toll-based plan in place that would add four lanes in the middle of I-4 — two in each direction — from Kirkman Road to State Road 434. Additional exit lanes would be added, as well as an upgraded interchange with S.R. 408.

Motorists would pay tolls based on the time of day. During the morning and evening rush hours, when traffic is heavier, the charge would be higher. Charges on I-95 in South Florida typically range from 25 cents to $2.65.

Including final design and the time it would take to build up a construction staff and assemble the necessary materials, FDOT officials estimate the project could be completed within six years.

RENTER'S INSURANCE

Recently within our apartment portfolio we have experienced two stove grease fires that occurred when a resident was cooking. In both incidents neither renter had “RENTERS INSURANCE”. In one situation the fire itself caused minor damage however, the water from the sprinkler system and Fire Department caused severe damage to the resident’s apartment as well as the neighbors below. The cost for repair, cleaning, and replacement of furnishings exceeded $5,000. In the other incident the staff arrived on the scene and was able to put the fire out in time to keep the sprinkler system from flooding their apartment and the apartments below! The cost for the damage to the apartment stove, cabinets and cleaning up of smoke damage still exceeded $5000.

In the past two months we have experienced forest fires near some of our apartment communities. Fortunately the quick action of the local fire departments kept the fire from spreading into the apartment communities. This could have been catastrophic loss for hundreds of residents. With no renters insurance your personal belongings would not be covered by the apartment community’s property insurance.

To those of you who reside in any of our coastal communities, hurricane season is beginning in June just weeks away. Storm damage is probable in the wake of a hurricane. Damage to your personal items from any type of storm is not covered under the apartment community’s property insurance. Many of you have seen the recent devastation in North Carolina and Georgia from tornado activity. If your building is damaged or destroyed you are not covered for your personal belongings.

What you need to know is that YOU are personally liable for damages to the apartment community as well as damage to units surrounding you even if the Fire Department creates the damage with their equipment and water! This could be financially devastating to you and your family. Below are list of the many reasons you need to be insured.

Did you know that if lightning were to strike your apartment building causing damage to your electronics (TV, computer, etc.) you would be responsible for the replacement/repair costs of these items? The Landlord’s insurance is not.

Did you know that if lightening were to strike your apartment building causing a fire you are responsible for all of the personal contents inside your apartment home? The Landlord’s insurance is not.

Did you know that if a neighbor leaves a candle unattended causing a fire, and/or smoke or water damages your personal belongings, PROPERTY NAME would not be responsible for the loss? And finally, Did you know that if a visitor is injured in your apartment or at the community while visiting you, you could be held liable for their medical expenses and more? Your current and future earnings could be at risk.

Many people are under the impression that an apartment communities’ insurance will cover such losses but this is inaccurate. The landlord’s policy does not include liability for something that happens in your rented residence or to your personal belongings.

How can you protect yourself and all of your personal property? Please obtain renter’s insurance. It is fairly inexpensive and your car insurance company may offer discounts for multiply policies. Most insurance carriers can help you select just the coverage you need based on exactly what you own so the renter’s insurance policy will suite your specific needs. The average annual cost for renter’s insurance today is approximately $120 per year a small price to pay to be able to replace your entire household. Often times you can add renter’s insurance through your current automobile insurance policy for a better rate!
Your lease agreement clearly expresses your need for insurance and your responsibility for protecting your personal property. Please protect yourself and your property by contacting your insurance company and begin a renter’s insurance policy today!

Albert Einstein (14 March 1879 – 18 April 1955) was a German-born theoretical physicist who discovered the theory of general relativity, effecting a revolution in physics. For this achievement, Einstein is often regarded as the father of modern physics. He continued to deal with problems of statistical mechanics and quantum theory, which led to his explanations of particle theory and the motion of molecules. He also investigated the thermal properties of light which laid the foundation of the photon theory of light. Loading the apartment dishwasher is both an art and a science. If you master the right ways of arranging your cups, silverware, and plates, they will end up clean and sparkling after every cleaning. Discover some apartment dishwasher do’s and don’ts here with these handy tips.

Knowing how to load the dishwasher properly is only half the battle when it comes to using your machine efficiently. Look over these additional do’s and don’ts to find solutions for other common dishwashing problems:
DO:
•Double-check that your items are dishwasher safe.

•Adjust settings appropriately to match the kinds of dishes you are washing; use the heated setting for dirty pots and pan, for instance.
•Select a dishwasher detergent that works well. You may discover that either a powdered or liquid detergent yields the best results in your particular machine.
•Raise or lower the top rack to accommodate larger items, if possible.
•Wash reusable plastic water bottles in the top rack.
•Use detergent that contains phosphates if you have hard water. (Phosphates help break down hard water so your dishes come out cleaner.)

DON’T:
•Load plastic items in the lower rack if you’re going to use the heated dry setting. (The heat can melt your stuff.)
•Put jars with labels in the apartment dishwasher. (The glue on the labels can clog the machine’s inner workings.)
•Load wooden cutting boards or spoons in the dishwasher. (They can crack and warp.)
•Put non-stick pans in the dishwasher.
•Put anything with metal (like copper, brass, or silver) in the dishwasher.
•Feel guilty about running the dishwasher, as the dishwasher uses less water than washing dishes by hand, making it eco-friendly!

The amount of garbage each of us produces is enormous, and so are the problems disposing of it! There seems to be some confusion about proper usage of the compactor. Management is confident that we can resolve these issues, but we need your help!

Please refer to the Community Rules and Regulations page of your lease contract for more specific information on trash and grounds upkeep. This information states:

15. TRASH
A trash compactor is conveniently located for your use. Please use plastic garbage bags and tie them securely. Place all trash inside the compactor chute. Do not place trash around exterior of compactor at any time. If this community recycles, PLEASE DO NOT place non-recyclable items in the recycling bins. Flatten all boxes before disposing of them.
16. GROUNDS UPKEEP
The community maintains a high degree of ground maintenance. Management requests that you help in maintaining our high standards.

Here is a list of what is going to be going on around Volusia County for this holiday season.

November 22 - December 23 - Gingerbread Magic
The annual gingerbread magic event will take place at the Volusia County Mall. You can see one-of-a-kind gingerbread creations. The gingerbread displays will be up from November 22nd through December 23rd.

November 26 -Thanksgiving Gifts
The Ponce Inlet Lighthouse is holding a special holiday event where children can make an ornament to take home. The event will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The cost is $5 for adults and $1.50 for children.

November 26 - Spark the Spirit
As part of the Christmas on Canal Street in New Smyrna Beach, they will light the Christmas tree. There will also be caroling, entertainment, Santa, and more! The events will start at 6:00 p.m.

November 29 - Holiday Concerts
There will be choirs from Volusia County schools entertaining visitors at the Ponce Inlet Lighthouse. This will take place from 11:00 am. to 1:00 p.m. and it is included with the regular admission fee.

December 1 - Girl's Night Out
This event, part of Christmas on Canal Street in New Smyrna Beach, will start at 5:00 p.m., with a fashion show starting at 7:00 p.m. This is a special shopping event for the girls/ladies. The stores will be open until 9:00 p.m. and there will be refreshments.

December 1 - South Daytona Christmas Tree Lighting
Held at 6:30 p.m. at the South Daytona City Hall (1672 S. Ridgewood Ave.), there will be a free event featuring Santa and entertainment.

December 3 - Holly Hill Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony
From 5:30 to 6:30 the city of Holly Hill will hold their annual tree lighting ceremony on the steps of City Hall.

December 3-5 - A Williamsburg Christmas
At the Casements in Ormond Beach there will be a Christmas event held on December 3, 4 and 5. Friday the event will run from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Saturday and Sunday it will run from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The admission per person is $5 for those 12 and up and $1 for under 12.

December 4 - Breakfast with Santa (Deltona)
Held at the Pine Ridge High School from 8:00 a.m. until noon, there will be crafts, music, food, Santa and more. The cost is $7.

December 4 - Annual Holly Hill Parade
The annual Holly Hill parade will be held at 10:00 a.m. The route for the parade will run from 15th Street and Ridgewood, south to 10th Street.

December 4 - Christmas in the Park
At 10:30 a.m. the City of Port Orange will hold a Christmas celebration at the Port Orange Amphitheater. The event is free.

December 4 - Visit with Santa and Mrs. Claus
From 11:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. at the Museum of Arts & Science in Daytona Beach children can visit with Santa and Mrs. Claus. This event is part of the festival of trees.

December 4 - Deland Jaycees Christmas Parade
The Christmas Magic on Mainstreet parade route will be south on Woodland Blvd. at 5:30 p.m.

December 4 - Daytona Beach Christmas Boat Parade
There will be a Christmas Boat Parade on the Halifax River. It will travel southbound and will start at the Seebreeze Bridge and run to the Chart House Restaurant at 1100 Marina Point Drive. The parade starts at 6:30 p.m.

December 4-5 - The Nutcracker Ballet
The Nutcracker Ballet will be performed at the Peabody Auditorium in Daytona Beach on December 4 and 5. The Saturday show is at 7:30 p.m. and the Sunday matinee is at 2:30 p.m. Ticket prices range from $29.90 to $36.05.

December 4-5 - Holiday Village Festival
There will be a holiday festival held at Gateway Park in DeBary (860 N. U.S. 17-92), that will feature children's activities, demonstrations, and art exhibits. The event is free. Park at KMart, there will be free shuttle service to the festival.

December 5 - Port Orange Christmas Parade
The Port Orange Christmas Parade will be held at 2:00 p.m. The route is Nova Road east on Dunlawton to Orange Ave.

December 5 - Chanukah Laser Lights
The Chabad Jewish Community Center is presenting an event featuring laser tag, music, a petting zoo and more. The free event will be at 2:00 p.m. and will be held at the Ormond Beach Performing Arts Center at 399 N. U.S. 1 in Ormond Beach.

December 8 - Journey Thru Christmas
The Volusia County Baptist Church, located at 261 S. Orange Ave. in Orange City, will be holding a free 30-minute journey through Christmas, which is a guided tour through 17 dramatized outdoor scenes depicting the birth and life of Jesus Christ. There will be free candy, hot chocolate and cookies. The event is at 6:30 p.m.

December 8 - Holiday Concert
There will be a free holiday concert held at the Port Orange Library. It will feature Linda Epstein Flynn and Thom Chambers. The concert will be held from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

December 11 - Breakfast (or Brunch) With Santa
Children will get the opportunity to have breakfast or brunch with Santa at the Central Florida Zoo in Sanford. For times, costs and reservations, click here.

December 11 - Parade in the Park
The free parade will take place at 3:00 p.m. at Riverfront Park at 201 N. Beach St. in Daytona Beach. Local high school bands will perform and Santa will be there.

December 11 - Home for the Holidays Parade
The Ormond Beach holiday parade will run from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and will go from Granada east to the Ormond Beach City Hall.

December 11-12 - DeLand Holiday Tour of Homes
There will be a historic home tour. The homes have all been decorated for the holidays. There are buses that will take you to each home. The tour time is 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Meets at the Henry A. DeLand House Museum at 137 W. Michigan Ave. Ticket prices are $12 in advance, $15 the day of. Visit DelandHouse.com for more info.

The Ormond Beach Historical Society is offering tours of nine historic homes and buildings that have been decorated for Christmas. There will be shuttles between the homes. The tour will be from 1:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. and the cost is $20 in advance and $25 the day of the event. Visit OrmondHistory.org for more info.

December 18 - Skating with Santa
Kids can ice skate with Santa at the Daytona Ice Arena in South Daytona. There will be real snow, candy canes and popcorn. Skate rental is free for kids 10 and under, with a $5.00 admission fee. Kids 11 and up pay $3.00 for skate rental and $7.00 admission. The event takes place from 1:00 p.m. to 3:45 p.m.

December 18 - Santa Cruisin' Classic Car Show
From 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. there will be a classic car show in Downtown DeLand (on Indiana Avenue). There will be photos with Santa at this event.

December 19 - A Christmas Carol
A Christmas Carol will be performed at the Peabody Auditorium at 3:00 p.m. Ticket prices range from $40.15 to $44.25.

December 25 - Winter Wonderland
The Daytona Ice Arena, located in South Daytona, is holding a special Christmas Day Winter Wonderland celebration. There will be real snow, and free hot chocolate and cookies for all kids under 15. You can skate from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. or 8:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. Kids 10 and under pay $5 admission and $3 skate rental. Kids 11 and up pay $7 admission and $3 skate rental.

December 28 - Early New Year's
The Ponce Inlet Lighthouse is hosting an early New Year's event that will feature a family fun day of activities and crafts. The event will be held on December 28, 2010 from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. and the cost is $5 for those age 12 and up and $1.50 for those under 12.

In observance of the Thanksgiving holiday our office will close Wednesday, November 24th, 2010, at 12:30 pm. We will be closed on Thursday, November 25th, 2010, and will reopen on Friday, November 26th, 2010, at 8:30 am. The clubhouse, internet cafe, and resident lounge will also be closed. Residents will have access to the fitness center with their magnetic key fob.
